What is Ijazah?

“Ijazah” or “Ijaza” (Arabic: الإِجازَة)  means “permit”, “permit” or “license”. For Quran studies, it is a certified certificate that authorizes its owners to send and teach Koran readings using Tajwid or Jarza-type Quran memorization. In addition, it gives the owner rights and rights. Permission to authenticate other people with the same authority. So that makes an endless chain of certified Quran narrators.

The History of The Ijazah/Sanad System

Since the year 100 A.H (700 CE), “Ijazah” is a certification and license authorizing its holder to transmit a certain text or subject of knowledge, issued by a higher religious authority (usually an indirect student of the Prophet Muhammad or a famous Muslim scholar). This unbroken chain of certified transmitters going back to the original author is called “Sanad”.

“Sanad” linguistically means chains, etc., and in a technical sense, it means that  Muslims are connected (by academic descent) to other Muslims. Except in some cases, one is usually granted because one cannot be granted without the other, and the person who is granted Ijazah is called “Musie’s” and is literally called the person who was granted Ijazah.  It is also very important to know that the scholars have decided to give each “and” a “rank” (either a “high sanad” or a “low sanad” rank depending on the particular characteristic). The Ijazah / Sanad system has either “Ijazah” and “Sanad” as well as either high-quality San or low-quality Sanad.

Quran Ijazah Types

Ijazah in Quran Memorization/HifzThis type of Ijazah is granted to Quran students who memorize the Quran perfectly and can recite the whole Quran by heart (without reading from the holy Quran book) without any mistake in front of an Ijazah certified Sheikh or Quran Teacher. In other words, Quran Memorization Ijazah is a certification that authorizes its holder to teach Quran Memorization (Hifz) and can be awarded by an already certified Imam or scholar. The learner obtains this certificate after memorizing the whole Quran very well and reciting it by heart in the presence of the certified tutor.

Importance of Ijazah/Sanad Ijazah/Sanad
