What does Allah say about memorizing Quran?
Allah does not directly speak about memorizing the Quran in the text itself, as the Quran is a revelation that covers guidance, law, stories of previous prophets, and principles for personal and communal living. However, the importance of the Quran and its recitation is emphasized throughout the text.
For instance, in Surah Al-Qiyamah (75:16-18), Allah says:
“Move not your tongue concerning (the Quran) to make haste therewith. It is for Us to collect it and to give you (O Muhammad) the ability to recite it. And when We have recited it to you [O Muhammad through Jibril (Gabriel)], then follow its (Quran) recitation.”
This emphasizes the importance of recitation and by extension, memorization, as it is through memorization that accurate recitation is ensured.
Additionally, there are numerous Hadiths (sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad) that encourage the memorization and recitation of the Quran. One famous Hadith from Sahih Bukhari states:
“The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Quran and teach it.”
